Melanie van Zyl - Freelance Travel Photojournalist
My stories aim to respectfully uplift the voices of our continent and I am continually striving to write about Africa - humanity's home - better. I have a soft spot for responsible travel and sharing the environment sustainably with the natural world.
Professionally, I create well-researched, beautifully photographed travel pieces for both print and online platforms.
Some of my proudest work is about tripping over elephants on a wild journey through the Zambezi Region to uncover community conservation collaborations at work, learning about Luanda and Angola's tourism potential from its youngest minister or exploring Mauritius' foodie backstreets. I started out seeking South Africa's leading night-sky destinations, figuring out how to see the best of Botswana in 10 days, creating the Ultimate Guide to Addo Elephant National Park and 4x4ing across the Namib Desert.
